2010 FIRST ANNUAL ECAG RIVERFEST ART SHOW

The RiverFest Art Show was one of our best yet with  a total of 82 entries.  We are planning to make this an annual event, so be preparing something for this show for April 2011.  Remember, it must have a water theme and preferably local scenes.  Next year we will go back to our rule of nothing more than two years old since you will have a year to plan for this exhibit.

The winners of this show are:  First Place – Suellen Young; Second Place – Donna Cantrell; Third Place ~ Peggy Milburn Brown; Honorable Mentions – Shirley Esco and Adelia Turner

Suellen Young ~ First Place

Donna Cantrell ~ Second Place

Peggy M. Brown ~ Third Place

Shirley Esco ~ Honorable Mention

Adelia Turner ~ Honorable Mention

The judge for this show was Russell Everett and he did a very good  job of choosing the winners.  (See judge’s
comments below.)

JUDGE’S COMMENTS:  I was very honored to judge this exhibition….I have always loved Wetumpka and I knew I would see some good landscape paintings.  (I am a very poor landscape painter.)  When I evaluate an art work, I am always drawn first to the concept of the piece….the idea; what song is the artist trying to sing; what story is being told; or what music is depicted by the colors.  Sometimes this aesthetic order is turned upside down.  I usually notice the techniques or style of an artist secondly, but sometimes the work is “done so well,” concept or image becomes secondary.  And even though I am a trained artist, I always look for the personal “opinion” or “secret” imagery presented in a work.

Well, thanks again to the Elmore County Art Guild for having me.  I am always ready to help them in everything they do!
