Carol Barksdale Meredith
Carol Barksdale began painting professionally in 1978 as she graduated from the University of Alabama. In addition to her painting, she has taught art in public as well as private schools for the past twenty years. "Art has been such a large part of my life that I have always wanted to share my knowledge with the next generation. I want to help them to understand, appreciate and express their feelings through the medium of art," said Carol. She teaches students to paint primarily through watercolor and/or acrylic paintings. Carol's career as a painter has progressed substantially since 2005. In that year, she was chosen to create the artwork awards for the Montgomery Community Business Committee for the Arts. In 2006 and 2007, her paintings were chosen for publication in the Montgomery Sketchbook and the Birmingham Sketchbook. At the invitation of the Alabama State Council on the Arts in 2008, her artwork was selected for an exhibition to hang at the State Arts Council gallery with other accomplished artists of the region. In 2009, Trey Granger, who was then the Director of the Montgomery County Voter Registration Office, asked her to create a large painting for their collection entitled, "The Art of Democracy." She was given full liberty to select her subject within that theme, as long as it included voting. Carol chose to paint the Cloverdale Junior High (now part of the Huntington campus) in use as a voting center. The painting is now part of their permanent collection and can be seen in their offices. Carol was also asked by Ken Reynolds, as a representative of the City of Montgomery, to create the artwork, for the first annual Montgomery Wine Festival poster in 2010. The City also offered a limited edition rendering of her original watercolor artwork on the poster. Carol currently serves as President of Gallery One Fine Art, an Alabama Not-for-Profit co-operative gallery in Montgomery. She is a member of the Montgomery Art Guild, Vice-President of the newly established Alabama River Region Art Center, a 501c3 non-profit located in Wetumpka. In addition, she is the Past President of the Elmore County Art Guild where she now serves on their board. Carol is active in her church and teaches Sunday School.
