A MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT

Due to the COVID-19 Pandemic, planning ECAG membership meetings has become a bit of a challenge. Based on restaurant restrictions, we have decided to cancel our October Membership Meeting. We will revisit this issue next month. Our newsletter and membership bulletins are the best way to stay up to date on guild happenings.

Also, a factor regarding the scheduling of our regular meeting place is the fact that Coaches Corner has been selected by HGTV for a renovation. It is unclear when we will be able to use their meeting room for future monthly membership meetings.

November is usually the month when the guild elects new officers and new board members. We will keep you posted about the next meeting, which is tentatively scheduled for November 11.

Should we not be able to hold an in-person membership meeting in November, we will make alternate plans for nominating and electing new board members and officers.

In February of this year, Michael Morgan, President of First Community Bank of Central Alabama, expressed a desire to host our 37th Annual Show. Tentative plans for the 37th Annual ECAG Show are underway. The show will be held at the FCBCA branch located in Wetumpka. Take-in for the show is scheduled for February 18, 2021. A reception is scheduled for Sunday, February 21. The take-down for the show is scheduled for Monday, March 01. A prospectus will be sent out at a later date.

Shirley Esco, President

FEATURED ECAG MEMBER ARTIST: Carol Barksdale

Carol Barksdale, who has worked as a professional artist for 30 years, has always been intrigued and inspired by travel. Growing up in a military family, she lived in many different countries around the world.  Her favorite place was Rome, Italy, where she graduated high school from Marymount International School in 1975 while her father worked for the American Embassy. After high school, Carol returned to the US and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in fine art from the University of Alabama in 1978. She has lived in the River Region since that time.

She has been featured in many Gallery One art shows and was featured in a one-woman retrospective show at the University of Alabama. The University also has one of her hand-lettered single edition books, The Prologue to the Canterbury Tales, in its rare book section at the main campus library.  Carol has taught art many years with the Elmore County Public School system and enjoys sharing the knowledge and love of art with her students.  She has also created posters for the City of Montgomery’s RiverWalk Wine Festival for the past ten years. Her paintings hang in many private and corporate collections.
